Making a Difference in a Kid's Life - AMI
The
Associated Marine Institutes (AMI) is a non-profit
organization that operates over 50 programs for juvenile
offenders in Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Louisiana, New
Mexico, South Carolina, Texas, and Virginia - dedicated
to turning troubled young lives around.
AMI seeks to develop positive attitudes in 14-18
year-old boys and girls by providing them exciting and
challenging opportunities to help them meet their
responsibilities, develop employable skills, and
increase their self-confidence. Educational programs are
tailored to the geographical strengths of each community
(e.g., ocean, wilderness, rivers, and lakes). While
local and State juvenile justice agencies work together
with local departments of education to provide the
majority of funding for AMI, private sector donations,
including financial support from The Hartwell
Foundation, enhance the effectiveness of this unique
effort.
